Meet the one with the disputed passport. Arcadian Coast is a Psilocybe cubensis with genuinely muddled paperwork — and that's most of its charm. It's a vigorous, fast-colonising strain with a reputation for large, well-built fruits, and it sits comfortably in that middle ground where it's not a beginner's first pick but rewards anyone with a bit of experience under their belt.
The look is classic and rather lovely: golden-to-caramel caps that carry a distinctive curl around the rim as they mature, sitting on long, solid, pale stems. Nothing exotic or attention-seeking — just a very handsome example of what a well-put-together cube ought to look like. The spore print comes through dark purple-black, as you'd expect.
Something to keep in mind: this isolation has a long-standing reputation as a shy spore producer, with prints and syringes tending to run light compared to the more prolific strains. It's not a fault so much as a quirk of the genetics, and it does mean this one is best understood as a collector's strain — a distinctive line for the shelf rather than a workhorse for heavy microscopy work. One camp places it in the Acadian Coast of Louisiana — that stretch along the Mississippi settled by exiled French-speaking Acadians — making it a stabilised line of Gulf Coast genetics, cousin to strains like Dixieland.
Storage: Keep your spores refrigerated, not frozen, from the moment you receive them. Pop them in the fridge straight away, and they’ll happily keep for a couple of months and in perfect conditions, even for years.
